Nettles can sometimes get a bad press. They are obviously a pain in the veg plot, and can be painful to weed. However, they can be turned into a feed for your plants within four weeks (more of this another time) and can also be used in cooking (again, watch this space!)

Now that the first frost has arrived, I thought it would be a good time to share this recipe, especially since I found a motherload of sloes when I took my dog on a different route when I took her for a walk this weekend.

As I mentioned last week, I decided to go have a go at making alcoholic ginger beer, as I remembered my parents making it in my youth. I’ve always wanted to have a go at doing it, and since I seem to buying different brands of ginger beer at the moment, it was either make my own, or work out other ways of how I was going to afford to live!
