When I poked my head out of the window on Saturday, it looked like the weatherman was right, and that Spring had finally sprung.
With all the bad weather recently, the good lady wife and myself decided we’d try to crack on with building the structure of the allotment, so that we could get some stuff in the ground sooner rather than later.
It took two nine hour days down the allotment, but in one weekend we went from this…
…to this …

(that’s me lurking in the background!)
I could tell when I woke up this morning that I had done some hard work, but it was all worth it.
Now there is room to plant all the potatoes I have chitting. That will now leave space in the greenhouse at home to move all of the seedlings out, to make room to start some more off.
I have a feeling that my dining room is going to look like ‘Day Of The Triffids’ for a few weeks to come!

Craig,
What a great improvement……looks fantastic. I wish I could dedicate 9hrs to my allotment!
Best wishes.
James
Hi James,
Thanks for the kind words!
I can’t claim all the credit for this, as my wife was more that an equal partner in the work, and also kept me supplied with tea and coffee.
Good to hear you are making some progress with your beekeeping, and I bet you are excited about your hive arriving this weekend!
I may be a bit late for this, but did you know that as well as getting the funky Beehaus from Omlet, you can also order the bees from there as well? – http://bit.ly/9GGmSq – They charge between £80 and £150 for a colony.
Best of luck with your beekeeping,
Craig
well done! a good weekend’s work i’d say.
I too spent the whole weekend in my veggie garden (which admittedly is about the size of an allotment – or at least it feels like it!) got the old winter crops cleared and dug over four 6x10ft raised beds – my poor muscles on Monday – boy did i feel it! still, it looks so much better and as soon as i have another spare minute i’ll get some crops in the ground…although the constant freezing ground troubles me…i think i’ll plant the potatoes in a couple of weeks, just to be sure.
I’m running out of room in the greenhouse already…you can tell its March!
Rebecca
Wow,what a difference, Craig. No wonder you and Lisa ached!!!!!!! You must be really proud of yourselves.

Looks like great progress, I usually end up sorting out my own plot in a rush over the Easter bank holiday but I’ve moved allotments this year and like you I’m starting from scratch a bit so have put a bit more work in early in the season. The new blog sounds exciting, I’ve never been on Bigbarn before but had a look, put my postcode in and most of my favourite shops came up, will make sure I go back. Hope the sun shines this weekend….
